Buckeyes Ready for Butler Invite – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. this weekend to compete in the Butler Canon IV Invitational. The meet marks the fourth straight away meet for the Buckeyes, who return to Columbus next week with the Scarlet and Gray Invitational.
BUTLER CANON IV PREVIEW
The Butler Canon is annually one of the NCAAs largest track meets, attracting some of the top schools from across the country. The Buckeyes will face Big Ten foes Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Purdue and Wisconsin. The women will line up against perineal powers such as Texas, UCLA, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina and LSU. The men will face tough competition as well in the likes of Notre Dame, Kentucky, Georgetown and Texas Tech.
BUTLER TRACK
The Invitational marks the third straight home meet for Butler, but its last until May 2 when it hosts the MCC Outdoor Conference Championships.
DUO STAYS ON TOP
In all four indoor meets this season, Dominque Calloway (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) and Donica Merriman (So., Trotwood, Ohio) have finished one-two in the 60-meter hurdles. The Air Force meet saw both runners achieve personal bests for the season. Merriman had a time of 8.22, while Calloway finished with a time of 8.23.
PIERCE CONTINUES WINNING WAYS
Sophomore Andrew Pierce (Yellow Springs, Ohio) was again victorious in the 400-yard dash, marking the fourth time in four meets that he has won the event. Pierce won the Ohio State Invitational with a time of 47.07 as well as taking the 200-yard dash crown at the meet with a 21.84. In the finals the following week in Manhattan, N.Y., he improved his time to 46.84. Pierce won the event at Indiana with a 47.63 as well as at the Air Force Classic Jan. 30 with a time of 46.77. He has not been defeated this season.
FOOTBALL RUNNERS MAKE IMPACT
Three members of the mens track team also played for the Sugar Bowl champion football Buckeyes this fall. Leandre Liggins (Jr., Cleveland, Ohio), Jimmy Redmond (Jr., Lees Summit, Mo.), and Reggie Germany (So., Hazelwood, Mo.) have all competed for Ohio State this season. Liggins has made the biggest impact of the three, scoring in nearly every meet in the 60 and 200-yard dashes. His best meet was at Air Force, where he won the 60-yard dash with a season-best 6.70, and finished second in the 200-yard dash with another personal best, 21.82. Redmond has competed in the 60-yard dash as well as the long jump, where he finished fourth at Indiana with a 7.19. Germany had a personal best at the Air Force Classic in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.12.
