Buckeyes Bombard St. Louis Billikens, 16-1, in Georgia State Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

Atlanta, Ga. – In rainy conditions, the Ohio State Softball team (3-5 overall) improved to 2-0 at the Georgia State Softball Classic with its 16-1 win over Saint Louis. The 15-run winning margin marks the most lopsided win in school history. The old record was a 19-5 win over Cleveland State on March 26, 1994. %^$
%^$The game was pretty much over from the start. Cheryl Palaroan (Sr., Reno, Nev.) led off the Ohio State half of the first inning with a double down the leftfield line. She would score along with the next three OSU batters. The Buckeyes finished the inning with a 5-0 lead. %^$
%^$The next inning was just like the first. Palaroan led off with a walk and would score along with the next five batters. The inning was highlighted by Samantha Kimuras (Fr., Placentia, Calif.) first career home run, a three-run shot. She took SLU starting pitcher Denise Setchfields first offering over the left-centerfield wall to give the Buckeyes an 11-1 edge. The Buckeyes tacked on two more runs at the end of the inning to go up 13-1. %^$
%^$The mercy rule was invoked in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tournament rules dictate the ending of a contest if one team is up by at least 15 runs. %^$
%^$”Even with the rain, the team refused to make excused and did the job,” Head Coach Linda Kalafatis said. “From top to bottom, our lineup produced.”%^$
%^$Toni Hileman (Jr., Alliance, Ohio) improved her record to 2-2 on the year. She pitched the entire game and yielded an unearned run. %^$

%^$The Wild West – In the bottom of the fourth inning, freshman Sarah West (Fr., Galloway, Ohio) recorded her first career hit and run batted in .%^$
%^$The Streak Goes On – Kimura increased her hitting streak to five consecutive games.%^$
%^$Hot Hitters – Palaroan finished the game going 3-for-3 and scored four runs. Renae Weigel (Jr., Coldwater, Ohio) went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Hileman chipped in with a 2-for2 afternoon. %^$
