Ohio State Blanks West Virginia 7-0 in Straight-Sets – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team captured its second shutout of the week against West Virginia (7-0) on Sunday in Pittsburgh, Pa. On Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Buckeyes posted a 9-0 victory over Ball State in straight-sets. Kristy Dascoli (So., Bradenton, Fla.), defeated Meghan Cornwall 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles position and Michelle Matko (Fr., Aurora, Ill.) posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory over West Virginia’s Jodi Firestone. Matko now has a 3-1 record at the No. 2 spot and a 10-6 overall record in singles.
The No. 12-ranked Dascoli and Harris defeated Cornwall and Firestone 8-3 and Matko and Monica Rincon (Fr., Lapeer, Mich.) topped Earles and Pintaric 8-4 to capture the 7-0 Buckeye win. The Buckeyes (5-3) begin their Big Ten schedule on Saturday, Feb. 27 against Michigan at 10 a.m. and Sunday, Feb. 28 against Michigan State at 10 a.m. at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center.
