Defending champion Michigan used a Big Ten record-breaking performance by Nicole Forrester in the high jump and several other top five finishes to come from behind and claim the 1999 Big Ten Womens Indoor Track and Field Championships today at Ohio State. Forrester, defending Big Ten Champion, broke her own record set last year en route to automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Second-place Purdue had its best showing in the last 11 years after relinquishing its hold on first place from the previous day, and claimed the top two places in the 400 meter dash. The Boilermakers were also sparked by Toyinda Smiths impressive day in the weight throw. Wisconsin distance runners took four of the top spots in the mile and two of the top three in the 5,000 meter run. Ohio States Donica Merriman (So., Trotwood, Ohio) successfully defended her 60 meter low hurdles title, winning in an NCAA provisionally qualifying time, while Carrie Hoblet (Jr., Lewis Center, Ohio) capped off a comeback year with a win in the 800 meter run for the Buckeyes. Dominque Calloway (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) won the 200 meter dash and anchored Ohio States winning 4×400 meter relay.
