Women’s Swimming Moves Up at Big Ten’s – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State Women’s Swimming and Diving are competing at the Big Ten Championships this weekend at University of Minnesota. After the second day of competition OSU moved up three spots to finish the day with 153 points and in ninth place. OSU had three divers finish in the top ten of the 3-meter diving event, more than any other team. Carrie Ziebarth (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) finished third in the 3-meter diving event with 479.85 points. Holly Underwood (Fr., Woodlands, Tx.) finished seventh with 442.30 points, and Melanie Johnson (Fr., Boca Raton, Fl.) finished tenth with 427.05 points. Top finisher for the Buckeyes, freshman, Keryn Krynauw (Pietermarizburg, S.Africa) who placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.81; her season best. The 200 medley relay team of Julie Hutzler (Sr., Hampton, Va.), Krynauw, Heidi Hazen (Jr., Mentor, Oh.), and Ann Stephens (Jr., Cincinnati, Oh.) swam to an eighth place finish and a time of 1:44.79, a season best. Hazen placed eleventh in the 100 butterfly with a time of :56.26, JoJo Baran (Jr., San Ramon, Ca.) finished fourteenth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.13. Stephens and Hutzler finished fifteenth and sixteenth in the 100 backstroke. Stephens with a time of :57.22 her season best and team best, and Hutzler with a time of :57.54. Events will conclude Saturday night.
