Rene’ Esteves Named AVCA Men’s National Player of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rene’ Esteves, a 6-5 middle hitter for No. 8 Ohio State, has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Men’s Player of the Week after leading the Buckeyes to wins over Rutgers-Newark (3-1)and then No. 14 Penn State (3-1). Esteves had 19 kills and five blocks in the win over the Scarlet Raiders, then came back with 22 kills, a season-high 12 digs and two blocks in the win over the Nittany Lions to earn MVP honors at the 20th annual Golden Dome Invitational. For the week, Esteves averaged 5.13 kills, 2.5 digs and .88 digs per game while posting a .456 hitting percentage over eight games. He was also honored as the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Player of the Week. Esteves and the eighth-ranked Buckeyes (7-3 overall, 6-0 MIVA) will travel to Mercyhurst Feb. 18 and play host to No. 14 Penn State on Feb. 21.
