Ohio State’s Jamie Natalie (So., Hockessin, Del.) finished seventh overall on the final day of competition at the prestigious Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev. With the placing, Natalie was chosen as a member of the U.S. National Team.
Natalie was 12th after the first day of competition, trailing first-place former Buckeye Blaine Wilson heading into the final round. Natalie scored a high of 9.600 on the horizontal bar, the second best score on the apparatus for the competition and tied for eighth on the parallel bars. Wilson went on to win the competition, and Natalie was one of only three college gymnasts in the top seven. Trent Wells from Berkeley was fourth, while Jim Foody from UCLA was sixth.
Buckeye head coach Miles Avery said of Natalie’s performance, “Jamies seventh place finish is very promising for the future in terms of a world championship year. Being chosen as the seventh best gymnast in the country is extremely exciting. I am very happy.”
Ohio State is back in action this weekend when it hosts the University of Oklahoma in St. John Arena on Sat., Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.
