Women’s Tennis Falls in ITA Midwest Regional – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s tennis player Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) and the doubles duo of Dascoli and Briana Harris (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) were finally defeated at the ITA Midwest Regional at The Racquet Club of Columbus. %^$
%^$ After beating seventh-ranked Michelle Dasso of Notre Dame, the No. 1 seed, in a three-set match in the semifinals, No. 3-seed Dascoli was defeated in three sets by Northwestern’s Katherine Nasser (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1), a 9-16 alphabetical seed, in the final. As a singles finalist, 50th-ranked Dascoli earned a berth in the 2000 Rolex National Indoor Championships, the third leg of the ITA Collegiate Grand Slam. %^$
%^$ The tandem of Dascoli and Harris, the No. 2-seed and seventh-ranked team in the country, fell in the semifinal round to tournament doubles champion Dasso and Becky Varnum of Notre Dame, 6-4, 7-5 (seeded No. 5-8 alphabetically). Dasso and Varnum defeated Purdue’s Shannon Taheny and Jennifer Embry, also seeded No. 5-8 alphabetically, to claim the Regional doubles title and the automatic berth in the Rolex National Indoor Championships. %^$
%^$ The ITA Midwest Regional ends the fall tournament season for Ohio State. The Buckeyes’ spring season begins when they host Illinois State and Akron, Jan. 22, 2000.%^$
