Ohio State Women’s Tennis Ranked Third in Region – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s tennis team, under fourth-year head coach Chuck Merzbacher, is ranked third (tied) in the Midwest Region in rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. It is the highest-ever regional ranking in program history.
The Buckeyes are tied for third with Marquette, behind No. 1 Notre Dame and second-ranked Northwestern. Seven other Big Ten Conference teams are ranked in the Top 15 in the Midwest: Illinois, fifth, Iowa, sixth, Indiana, seventh, Wisconsin, eighth, Purdue, ninth, and Michigan and Minnesota, 10th (tied).
The Buckeyes had a successful fall tournament season, highlighted by a strong performance at the ITA Midwest Regional held in Columbus. No. 50 Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) upset nationally seventh-ranked Michelle Dasso of Notre Dame in the singles semifinals to reach the title match of the tournament. Dascoli and partner Briana Harris (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) reached the semifinals of the doubles tournament, while Monica Rincon (So., Lapeer, Mich.) advanced to the quarterfinal round in the singles field. Michelle Matko (Jr., Aurora, Ill.) claimed the singles consolation crown of the tournament.
National team and individual rankings will be released Dec. 7 by the ITA.
