Women’s Volleyball Faces Notre Dame In The First Round Of The NCAA Volleyball Championship – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (16-11 overall) women’s volleyball squad has been selected to the NCAA Championship. This marks the 11th consecutive season the Buckeyes have been included in the field. Ohio State will face Notre Dame (20-8) Saturday, Dec 4 at 5 p.m. Pacific. Host UCLA (25-3) will play Eastern Washington (24-7) in the second match Saturday. The Saturday winners return to play Sunday for the right to advance to the Central Regional.
Ohio State has a 4-3 record against Notre Dame. OSU’s last match against Notre Dame was a 1996 second round NCAA match played at Notre Dame. Ohio State won in five (8-15, 11-5, 15-11, 15-11, 15-8). The Buckeyes are 1-0 against Eastern Washington winning 3-2 (15-6, 12-15, 5-15, 15-11, 15-10) at the 1987 Brigham Young Invitational. Ohio State is 1-6 against UCLA. The lone win came in the last meeting at the 1998 Wahine Volleyball Classic at Hawaii. The Buckeyes won in five (1-15, 15-3, 11-15, 15-8, 15-11).
OHIO STATE NCAA HISTORY
Ohio State has appeared in 10-consecutive NCAA Championships. The Buckeyes have advanced to the regional level seven times and twice (1991 and 1994) has reached the national semifinals. Overall the Buckeyes have a 13-10 (.565) record in NCAA play. OSU’s trips to the national semifinals included regional championship wins over Nebraska and Long Beach State on their courts.

Ohio State was one of eight Big Ten team to make the 64-team field, the most by any conference. Included from the Big Ten were Penn State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Michigan and Ohio State.
