Women’s Volleyball Falls to Wisconsin In Five Games – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (16-11 overall, 10-10 Big Ten) women’s volleyball took a five-game loss to Wisconsin (21-9, 14-6) to end the regular season. The 4-15, 15-2, 13-15, 16-14, 15-10 Badger win was highlighted by a 23-kill, seven block performance by Sherisa Livingston. Badger Jenny Maastricht added 19 with Allyson Ross and Kelly Kennedy contributing 11 each. Ohio State’s Jen Flynn had a team-high 18 kills with Rosie Snow adding 17, Shelly Draeger 15 and Suzie Stiling 11.
%^$Ohio State and Wisconsin split the first two games of the match. The Buckeyes won game one 15-4, hitting .387 to .125 for Wisconsin. Game two saw Wisconsin winning 15-2 while hitting .423 to OSU’s -.148.
%^$Ohio State built up a 5-1 lead in game three and expanded that to 10-3 capped with a Rosie Snow kill. Two OSU errors and a Jenny Maastricht kill cut the lead to 10-6. With the score 11-7 in favor of OSU, Wisconsin, with kills by Sherisa Livingston and Maastricht and two OSU errors tied the game at 11. Another OSU error put Wisconsin ahead 12-11. OSU’s Suzie Stiling tied the game at 12 with a kill and a Badger error put OSU ahead 13-12. A Buckeye error tied the game at 13. After several side outs, a Wisconsin error set game point at 14-13 and a Jen Flynn kill ended the game at 15-13. Wisconsin outhit Ohio State in the game, .241 to .192.
%^$Game four stayed close until with the score at seven all, two OSU errors gave Wisconsin a 9-7 lead. A Sherisa Livingston kill expanded the lead to 10-7. An UW error closed the lead to 10-7, but an OSU mistake put the lead at 11-8. A Badger error with OSU kills by Jen Flynn and Sue Calligaris tied the game at 11. A Wisconsin error and kills by Shelly Draeger and Calligaris set match/game point for Ohio State at 14-11. An OSU error side the ball back to Wisconsin where a Lizzy Fitzgerald kill cut the lead to 14-12. The Buckeyes again served for the match but an error returned the serve to Wisconsin. UW’s Allyson Ross connected for a kill to cut the lead to 14-13. Ohio State served for the match a third time but a Livingston kill returned the serve to Wisconsin and a Buckeye error tied the game at 14. Livingston put Wisconsin ahead at 15-14 with a kill and a solo block by Jenny Maastricht ended the game for Wisconsin at 16-14. The Badgers hit .222 for the game to .123 for Ohio State.
%^$In the rally scoring game five, Ohio State held a 4-3 lead but a service error tied the game at four. Kills by Kelly Kennedy and Allyson Ross put Wisconsin ahead 6-4 and the Badgers kept the lead the rest of the game. Ohio State was down two at 12-10 after a block by Rosie Snow and Suzie Stiling. The Badgers responded with a kill by Sherisa Livingston, a Kennedy kill and a solo block by Jenny Maastricht to end the game at 15-10. The Badgers hit .538 for the game to .143 for Ohio State.
%^$In the match Wisconsin hit .255 to OSU’s .152. The Badgers outblocked the Buckeyes 16 to seven with Kelly Kennedy and Sherisa Livingston each picking up two solo and five assist blocks. Ohio State had the edge in ace serves, three to two and outdug Wisconsin 80 to 70. Rosie Snow and Katie Virtue each had 19 digs in the match with Virtue recording a career-high.
