Women’s Swimming Travel To Ann Arbor for a Tri-Meet – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio
The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team (1-4 overall, 0-2 in the Big Ten) will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a tri-meet against both Clemson and Big Ten rival Michigan. The meet is set for Friday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Canham Natatorium.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Clemson Tigers (1-1 overall, 0-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) have a win over South Carolina and a loss to Virginia. The Tigers defeated the Gamecocks on Nov. 12, 165-77, winning all but three events. Clemson lost earlier this season to Virginia 145.50-97.50. Freshman Courtney Ellis is swimming well with event wins at both meets. Last season the Tigers finished with a 6-2 overall record and 2-1 in the ACC. They finished fourth at the ACC Championships with 429 points.
OSU vs. CU ALL-TIME
This weekend’s matchup is the first ever meeting between the two schools.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
The Wolverines are No.7 team in the country. Most recently UM participated in a tri-meet with three other nationally ranked teams. The Wolverines have a win against No. 12 Nebraska but fell short to No. 16 Minnesota and No. 18 North Carolina, Nov. 5-6, in Minneapolis, Minn. UM has wins over Big Ten rival Michigan State and a loss to Florida. Last season the Wolverines finished second at the Big Ten Championships behind Minnesota. Michigan is the only team to have won more Big Ten Championships than OSU.

The Buckeyes trail the Wolverines in the all-time series, 10-1.
LAST WEEKEND RECAP
On Nov. 12 the Buckeyes won their first meet of the season against West Virginia, 131-112. OSU took home eight first-place finishes. On Saturday, the Buckeyes fell short to both Purdue and Iowa in their first Big Ten tri-meet of the season. OSU did win four out of four diving events. Against the Mountaineers, OSU improved five individual season best times on the season and four against Purdue and Iowa.

DIVERS ARE CONSISTENT
The women’s diving team has taken first place finishes in both the one and three-meter diving events at every meet except one. Holly Underwood has won the one-meter twice and the three-meter once. Carrie Ziebarth has won both the one and three-meter events once. Melanie Johnson has a first place finish in the 3-meter dive. Jillian Cicione won the three-meter at the Ohio University meet. The only time OSU did not win an event was against Cincinnati but they still managed to capture the three-meter event.
THE NEXT OPPONENT
The Buckeyes will swim their last home meet before the millenium, Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. against intrastate foe, Cleveland State. The next stop on the schedule for the Buckeyes is Puerto Rico, Mexico for their winter training trip in December.
THE RANKINGS
The Big Ten has five teams ranked in the Women’s Division I Top 25 poll released by College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The teams are, No. 5 Michigan, No. 10 Northwestern, No. 15 Wisconsin and No. 16 Minnesota.
