Women’s Volleyball Defeats Indiana State 3-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team, ranked 13th in the USA TODAY/AVCA Coaches Preseason Poll, defeated the Sycamores of Indiana State, 15-5, 15-3, 15-6 Tuesday night in the opening match of the season for both squads.
OSU’s Rosie Snow (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored a match-high 12 kills and nine digs while Dana Stearns (So., Bexley, Ohio) added 11 kills and a match-high four ace serves in the one hour, 15 minute match. Sycamore Tressa Wykoff (So., Lafayette, Ind.) had a team high seven kills with Cheryl Berg (Fr., Indianapolis, Ind.) adding five.
Snow helped the Buckeyes overcome a 2-1 Indiana State lead in game one with seven of her 12 kills, putting Ohio State up 8-3. ISU closed the gap to 9-5, but allowed OSU to win giving up the next six points.
Game two saw Indiana State lead 1-0, but Ohio State came back with the next 12 points to keep the game in check, winning 15-3.
The Scyamores again took the opening lead, 2-0 but the Buckeyes picked up the next 10 points to go ahead. OSU capped the game, 15-6 to win the match.
OSU hit .450 for the match and recorded 11 ace serves, while Indiana State hit .130.
The Buckeye travel Wednesday to the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic, Sept. 4-6 in Honolulu, Hawaii. OSU faces sixth-ranked Florida on Friday, 14th-ranked Hawaii Saturday and 18th-ranked UCLA Sunday.
GAME NOTES:
Setter Jen Flynn (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa) (38 assists, three kills) switched off in game three with freshman Carey Cavanaugh (Munroe Falls, Ohio) (seven assists) handling the setting and Flynn moving to the outside hitting position.
Freshman Ann Botica (Windsor, Ont.) (two kills, one service ace) saw her first action of the year, playing at the outside hitting position.
Freshman Mandi Clark ((New Castle, Ind.) started the match for OSU, scoring six kills, four digs and one ace serve.
Freshman walk-on Nikki Cisco (Dublin, Ohio) saw backrow action in the match recording three digs. She becomes a third generation Buckeye joining her father Galen Cisco, Jr. (baseball 78-79-80) and grandfather Galen Cisco (football and baseball 55-56-57).
