Softball Loses to Iowa, 4-3 – Ohio State Buckeyes

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Ohio State softball team (17-18-0 overall, 4-9 in Big Ten) played the No. 22-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes (24-10-0 overall, 5-4 in Big Ten) down to the wire, losing 4-3. The Buckeyes came out strong with a run in the top of the first inning when Cheryl Palaroan (Jr., Reno, Nev.), who got on base off a single, scored off a double by Jaime Chenevey (Jr., Wooster, Ohio). But the Hawkeyes would immediately answer back with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead over OSU.
The Buckeyes would not go down easy. They would regroup to tie the game in the top of the third inning. Natalie Kratzer (Jr., Ashland, Ohio) led off with a walk and would eventually score off a single by Chenevey to even the score at two. But Iowa would again respond with another run the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. OSU rallied one more time to tie the score in the sixth inning when Chenevey would score off an error by Iowa third baseman Melissa Stuber. But in the end, Iowa would pull out the game by adding a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the contest, 4-3.
OSUs Jodi Dolan (Sr., Fallon, Nev.) saw her record fall to 5-5 on the year. She pitched the complete game, gave up four runs, three of which were earned and struckout one. Iowa’s Debbie Bilbao improved her record to 16-5 on the year. The Buckeyes will return action on Tuesday when they play host to Dayton for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
