Women’s Tennis Defeats Michigan State – Ohio State Buckeyes

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State womenis tennis team dropped a close match to the Ohio State Buckeyes, 4-3, on Saturday, March 28. The loss dropped MSU’s record to 8-5 overall (0-4 Big Ten) %^$
During the singles competition the Spartans were lead by freshman Kelli Hayes and sophomore Brooke Townsend. Hayes came back from a pair of losses against Illinois and Purdue, to defeat OSU’s Carolina Nahoz, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 6 position. Townsend continued an 11 game winning streak, after defeating OSUis Kadri Kanepi, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 5 position. Also victorious in her singles match was junior Jaime Tannenbaum. After dropping the first game, 4-6, Tannenbaum came back to win the next two games, 6-4, 6-0, over OSU’s Nicole Votolato at the No. 4 position. MSU senior Alana Inkala was victorious in her exhibition match, 6-1, 7-6, 6-2, over OSU’s Monica Koplas. %^$
In the doubles competition, Ohio State took the doubles point although the Spartans made it close. The MSU duo of Townsend and freshman Natasha Skogerboe was victorious over OSU’s Kanepi and Meredith Zimpler at No. 3, 8-5. The win gave the pair its 10th victory in a row. At the No. 2 position, the Spartan tandem of Tannenbaum and Hayes fell just short, with an 8-6 defeat from OSUis Mandy Yeley and Briana Harris.%^$
