Softball Splits Pair with Minnesota – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team (11-9-0, 1-1-0 in Big Ten) and the No. 20-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers (25-7-0, 1-1-0 in Big Ten) combined to score a whopping 34 runs in two games. In game one, the Golden Gophers blasted Ohio State 14-5. But game two featured the resilient Buckeyes bouncing back to win the game in the 12th inning, 9-6.%^$
Minnesota’s Steph Klaviter (8-4) was credited with the game one win. She went 5.2 innings and gave up all four runs.%^$
%^$Jodi Dolan (Sr., Fallon, Nev.,) was charged with her second loss of the year (3-2, 0-1 in Big Ten). The starter gave up four runs in two innings of work.
%^$But game two proved to be a whole new ballgame. In the third inning, the Gophers jumped out to a 3-0 lead off a Morgan Holden three-run home run. But the Buckeyes bounced back to score the next six runs. Minnesota added another run in the sixth inning and in the bottom of the seventh, Morgan Holden sent the game into extra-innings with a two-run homer to tie the score at six.
%^$The game remained scoreless until the top of the 12th when with one out, Candace Kollen (Sr., Cerritos, Calif.) lined a single into leftfield. Julie Bauman (Sr., Canfield, Ohio) and Dolan immediately followed with back to back singles to load the bases for Jaime Chenevey (Jr., Wooster, Ohio). Chenevey kept the ball rolling with an infield single to score Kollen and gave OSU a 7-6 lead. Dolan and Chenevey would eventually score insurance runs off a Katie Wessendorf (Fr., Waterville, Ohio) single to bring the score to 9-6.
%^$On the mound, Kristi Martin (Fr., La Mirada, Calif.) went the entire game to improve her record to 3-2 (1-0 in Big Ten).
%^$Klaviter entered the game in the fifth inning and was charged with the loss (8-5, 1-1 in Big Ten).
%^$On the day, the Buckeyes out hit the Golden Gophers by a 30-29 margin. Dolan led the way for OSU with a 5 for 10, two RBI day.
%^$The two schools will play the rubber match tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Buckeye Field. %^$
