SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In the top of the third inning, the Ohio State Buckeyes (8-7-0 overall, 0-0-0 in Big Ten) found themselves down 5-1 to the Pacific Tigers (10-11-0 overall). But the patient Buckeyes decided to slowly chip away at the four run deficit with one run in the bottom of third, another in the fourth, two more in the fifth and the winner in their final at bat.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jaime Chenevey (Jr., Wooster, Ohio) led off with a single to right field. Amy Paumier (Fr., Alliance, Ohio) laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Chenevey to second base. This would then set the stage for Toni Hileman (So., Alliance, Ohio). The sophomore lined a clutch single to right field to score Chenevey.
On the mound, Jodi Dolan (Sr., Fallon, Nev.) improved her record to 3-0 on the year. She pitched four spotless innings of relief work, giving up only two hits in the process.
Ohio State will continue through the Air Touch Cellular Capital Classic today at 5 p.m. with a contest against Harvard. The winner of the game will move on to the Championship Game of the consolation bracket to be played tomorrow at 11 a.m.
