Women’s Swimming Completes Big 10 Finals – Ohio State Buckeyes

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Buckeyes move two spots up from the basement to finish ninth at the Big Ten Championships. On the final day of competition, Sharon Wong (Sr., Worthington, Ohio) captured the platform diving crown with a score of 564.6. Wong earned All-Big Ten status with her outstanding performances in all three diving events. Carrie Ziebarth (So., Auburn, Wash.) finished two spots behind Wong, in third, with her score of 513.85. Traci Mainer (So., Kennett Square, Pa.) took an impressive second place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:59.44) earning 17 points for the Buckeyes. In Friday nights action, Carrie Ziebarth turned in another excellent performance, capturing third place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 476.90. Sharon Wong finished four places behind Ziebarth in seventh place. The Ohio State 200 medley relay team of Julie Hutzler (Jr., Hampton, Virginia), Missy Kuck (Sr., Delaware, Ohio), Heidi Hazen (So., Mentor, Ohio) and Johanna Barron (Fr., Danville, Calif.) posted its best time of the season (1:44.40) finishing fifth. Placing in other events for the Buckeyes were Julie Hutzler, sixth in the 100 backstroke (56.86) and Erica Fischer (So., Carson City, Nev.) finished seventh in the 400 individual medley (4:24.08).
