Women’s Swimming Heads South For Training and Meets – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team (10-4, 1-0) will spend their winter break swimming in Florida. The Buckeyes will compete against both Miami (12/18) and Florida Atlantic (12/22) while training.
%^$OSU VS. MIAMI AND FLORIDA ATLANTIC
%^$The Buckeyes will battle Miami who have posted 5-1 record for the season. The Hurricanes are coming off a third place finish at the Indiana Invitational. Florida Atlantic is coming off a fifth place finish at the Adidas/Sprint Classic in Lincoln, Neb.

%^$Junior Heidi Hazen paced the Bucks with a first place finish in the 100 butterfly (:55.84). Tennessee, Kenyon, and Miami O. finished ahead of OSU respectively. The 200 and 800 freestyle relays both finished second, as did the 200 medley relay. Other top performers, Julie Hutzler finished second in the 100 backstroke and Keryn Krynauw third in the 100 breaststroke.
%^$HAZEN BIG TEN SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
%^$For the week of Dec. 1, junior Heidi Hazen was named Big Ten Swimmer of the week. Hazen paced OSU to the victory over Cleveland State, winning the 100 butterfly with a time of :57.72. She also helped the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays to first place finishes with times of 1:48.12 and 1:39.35 respectively.
%^$HUTZLER REMAINS UNDEFEATED
%^$Senior, Julie Hutzler remains to be beaten in the 100 and 200 backstroke events in dual meets since the Scarlet and Gray meet. She posted her best time in the 100 (:57.97) at the Miami Invitational and in the 200 (2:04.49) at Michigan State. Last year Hutzler finished sixth in the 100 backstroke at Big Ten Championship.
%^$FRESHMEN SHOW THEIR STUFF EARLY
%^$Three freshman, Keryn Krynauw, Kristin Sander, and Tanya Brouillette have stepped up right away for the Buckeyes. Krynauw a breaststroker has a first place finish at each dual meet so far, she is also a part of the winning 200 medley relay team. Kristin Sander has earned two first place finishes in the 100 (:54.16) and four first place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:54.74). She holds the fastest time for the Buckeyes in the 200 freestyle for the season. Tanya Brouillette has been the freestyler on the winning 400 and 200 medley relays. The relay has yet to loose since the season. She also took a first place finish against Bowling Green and Cleveland State in the 50 freestyle. Diver Melanie Johnson has earned a first place in both the one-meter and three-meter events this season. %^$ %^$KRYNAUW QUALIFIES FOR NCAA’S
%^$Freshman Keryn Krynauw already qualified for the NCAA Championship with a time of 2:17.45 in the 200 breaststroke at West Virginia.
%^$ON THE ROAD AGAIN
%^$The Buckeyes first eight meets this season are on the road. They will not swim in their own water till Jan. 6 when they take on Penn State.%^$ %^$AROUND THE BIG TEN
%^$In conference action, Illinois posted a win over Iowa. Michigan captured the Notre Dame Invitational title , Michigan State finished fifth. Penn State won the PSU Invitational.
%^$MEET 1 VS. OHIO U. 11/6
%^$The Buckeyes fell just short in their first meet against the Bobcats 118-125. OSU’s Julie Hutzler (100 back), Heidi Hazen (100 butterfly), and Keryn Krynauw (100 breaststroke) each won their individual events as well as the 400 medley relay that included JoJo Baran.
%^$MEET 2 VS. MICHIGAN STATE 11/13
%^$Buckeyes won it’s first Big Ten meet of the season 156-144. Four Buckeyes were triple winners: Erica Fischer, Heidi Hazen, Julie Hutzler, and Keryn Krynauw. Each won their individual events as well as contributing to the 200 medley relay win.
%^$MEET 3 VS. BOWLING GREEN 11/14
%^$OSU earned it’s second victory for the weekend 138-94. Buckeyes Carrie Ziebarth and Melanie Johnson took home wins in the one and three meter diving events as well as swimmers Erica Fischer, Julie Hutzler, Heidi Hazen each with two wins.
%^$MEET 4 VS. WEST VIRGINIA 11/20
%^$The Bucks dominated at West Virginia 161-81, taking home a win in all events but one. Erica Fischer won all three events she swam, while the relays swept the meet taking home wins in both the 200 medley and 800 free relays.
%^$MEET 5 VS. CLEVELAND STATE 11/24
%^$The Buckeyes defeated Cleveland State (75-20) last Tuesday. OSU won every event except one. Freshman Keryn Krynauw earned her best time of the season in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.85). Erica Fischer won both the 200 individual medley (2:08.92) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.15).
