The Spartans recorded their first Big Ten loss against Penn State this season. Much like the Buckeyes, the Spartans are fielding a young but talented group of swimmers this season. After a loss of 10 seniors, MSU has 13 new members this season. The freshman are lead by Illdiko Szekely and Ashby Baldock. The Spartans are hoping to improve their ninth place finish at Big Ten’s last season. The Spartans are coached by Richard Bader.

Junior Nancy Simpson won both the 200 IM (2:11.20) and the 200 backstroke (2:08.62), the only two events the Falcons won. The falcons are are similar to the Bucks with only two seniors leading the way through the season, and eight new faces to watch.
BUCKEYES FALL SHORT TO OU
The first meet of the season for the Buckeyes came down to the final relays, as OSU finished just behind Ohio University by only seven points. The relay team of Julie Hutzler, Keryn Krynauw, Heidi Hazen, and Tanya Brouillette won the 400 medley event. Krynauw (200 BR), Hutzler (200 BK), and Hazen (200 FL) each won thier individual events. ON THE ROAD
The Buckeyes first eight meet this season are on the road.. They will not swim in thier own water till Jan. 6 when they take on Penn State.
NEW FACES TO WATCH FOR
The Buckeyes are ready to begin this season with new blood. OSU has 11 new faces who are ready to show what they have to offer. The 11 returnees will help lead the freshmen towards a successful season. “It is not just the quality of swimmers we recruited this year but the quality of the swimmers,” said head coach Neil Harper. Freshman, Keryn Krynauw is a breaststroker who has the potential to be a world class athlete, Harper said. Krynauw set two records in the Scarlet vs. Gray meet two weeks ago. Kristin Sendrowski is another face to look for this season, she will be a tough contender in the fly and freestyle sprint events. HEAD COACH NEIL HARPER
A 1988 graduate of Louisiana State University, Harper was a seven event NCAA All-American, and a four-time Southeastern Conference Champion. Before heading to OSU, Harper was at Florida State for three years as an asisstant with the men’s and women’s teams. Last year as a Buckeye Harper finished with a 7-7 record and ninth place finish in the Big Ten.
