The Buckeyes are now 8-14 on the year and 0-2 in the Big Ten while Nebraska evens its conference record at 2-2 and is now 10-14 overall.

Coupet was dealing. He notched career-highs of 7.0 innings, 124 pitches and 14 strikeouts. He allowed just four hits and one earned run while only walking one.

Blayne Robinson, playing in just hit seventh game, went 2-for-3 with a double and his first home run as a Buckeye. Mitchell Okuley also had two hits in the game while Archer Brookman and Colton Bauer each recorded a double.

Nebraska struck with a solo home run in the first inning and then took advantage of a pair of errors in the second to tally another run and jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

The Buckeyes got on the board in the seventh as Robinson launched the first pitch he saw deep over the rightfield fence for his first home run of the season. Okuley followed with a single and advanced all the way to third on a throwing error by the catcher with one out. Josh McAlister then walked but the Buckeyes stranded runners at the corners as Nebraska held on to a 2-1 lead.

The Cornhuskers added a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to push the lead out to 5-1. Brookman and Bauer opened the Buckeyes’ ninth with back-to-back doubles and Bauer later scored on a single by March Ernst and the Buckeyes closed within two at 5-3. Braxton Bragg then came on and induced a groundout to end the game.

The teams will resume the series on Saturday afternoon as Nate Haberthier will be opposed by Cornhusker Koty Frank. First pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m.
