COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University men’s golf team closed out The Challenge at Concession, placing fifth after three rounds, carding 319-305-308 to finish 68-over par on the tough Concession Golf Club. The course proved to be a tall order for the 11-team field, as the average score for the tournament was 79.31 for the par 72 7,470-yard track.
Freshman Jackson Chandler put together the best tournament of his young collegiate career, taking on the difficult course and besting nearly everyone in the field. Competing as an individual, Chandler opened the tournament with back-to-back 73s to place him third going into the final round. The freshman started the day on the back nine, birdieing his first two holes and closing out the side one-under par. The front side proved to be more difficult, causing four bogeys alongside five pars to post a 75. With his three-round total of 221, Chandler took a share of third place at five-over par to post a new career-high finish.
Senior Felix Kvarnstrom posted his third top-10 of the season, improving in each round to post 79-76-72 and finish tied for seventh at 11-over. Kvarnstrom played his first nine one-under with three birdies before running into trouble on his second nine. The round was starting to get away from him when he bogeyed the 16th hole but quickly turned it around, holing the only eagle of the day and birdie in the final two holes to get back to even-par.
Sophomore Grant Engle ground out a 16th place finish himself, shooting 76 on the final day to go along with his 80-75 from day one and close out the tournament 15-over. Engle managed four birdies across his final round, also rolling in nine pars at Concession.
The second of three Ohio State individuals, senior Jack Mancinotti also claimed a piece of 16th, navigating the course on the final day to shoot a one-over 73, improving drastically from his early rounds of 80-78 to collect a top-20 finish.
Junior Laken Hinton posted the next best score, coming in tied for 32nd, carding 79-76-81 to finish 20-over par.
Junior Kevin Stone and freshman Patrick Schmucking each finished 25-over par to tie for 40th place.
