COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State women’s tennis team has four ranked singles players and a ranked doubles team in the rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week.
Irina Cantos Siemers is ranked sixth nationally after starting the year No. 7. The junior from Barcelona was 12-4 this fall, was a semifinalist at the ITA Fall National Championships and finished as runner-up at the ITA Midwest Regional. She is the second-highest ranked player in school history, behind only Francesca Di Lorenzo who reached as high as No. 1.
Cantos Siemers and freshman Sydni Ratliff, who claimed the Midwest region title, are No. 29 in the national rankings. The tandem was 7-3 during the fall.
Lucia Marzal is No. 72 in the singles rankings, with Luna Dormet No. 114 and Ratliff tied for 123rd.
Marzal posted an 11-6 record in the fall, while Dormet was 3-2 in limited action. Ratliff was 8-3 during her first collegiate semester.
The Buckeyes will start 2022 with an individual tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., before beginning dual match play in North Carolina Jan. 21 and Jan. 23 vs. Duke and NC State, respectively.
Ohio State’s first home competition will be for ITA Kickoff Weekend matches Jan. 29-30. The Buckeyes are the No. 1 seed in Columbus and will face No. 4 Oklahoma State in the first round, with LSU and Tennessee meeting as well. The winners and losers will meet on day two, with the site winner advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship Feb. 11-14 in Madison, Wis.
