COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team opens the spring portion of the season this week at the NEXUS Collegiate. The event will run Feb. 14-16 and will be played at the prestigious Albany Club in the Bahamas.
- Ohio State’s lineup this week will feature Maxwell Modovan, Patrick Schmucking, Marco Steyn, Adam Wallin and JonErik Alford. Jackson Chandler will be playing as an individual.
- The Buckeyes played in four events in the fall, culminating with the Barbara Nicklaus Cup at Muirfield Village. The event was a mixed men’s and women’s match play event that saw the Buckeyes finish in third place.
- Moldovan led the Buckeyes in the fall with a 70.89 scoring average. Seven of his nine rounds were at par of better and he posted three rounds in the 60s. His 5-under 67 in the second round of the Marquette Intercollegiate was his second-lowest round as a Buckeye. The Uniontown, Ohio native is coming off a solid week at the Jones Cup in South Carolina.
- Schmucking was second this past fall in scoring at 71.89. He posted four rounds at par or better and was second on the team with 27 birdies. He closed the Windon Memorial with a career-low 4-under 67 to finish at 1-under par, his only under-par event as a Buckeye.
- Steyn, a Wake Forest transfer, played in three events in the fall for the Buckeyes. He opened this spring by playing in the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate in Georgia where he finished in 6th place following a final round 2-under 70.
- Wallin played in every event for the Buckeyes last year as a freshman and had a 73.17 scoring average. He also opened the spring at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate, finishing third after his final round 4-under 68 in cold, windy conditions.
- The setting this week will be tremendous. The Albany Club is an exclusive club the features a challenging links-style course designed Ernie Els. The club hosts the PGA TOUR’s Hero World Challenge.
- Temperatures this week in the Bahamas will be in the mid to upper 70s but the forecast calls for steady winds around 20 mph each day.
