Buckeyes Host 20th Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic On Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fall softball is back at Ohio State which means so is the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic. On Saturday, Ohio State hosts the annual event with games vs. Bowling Green and Ohio at Buckeye Field. Ohio State then wraps up the home portion of its fall season with a doubleheader on Sunday vs. Pittsburgh.

More on the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic

  • This year marks the 20th Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic with games to be played at Fred Beekman Park, located on the Ohio State campus, and Buckeye Field.
  • Division I, II and III teams from Ohio and neighboring states are set to participate this year.
  • In addition to games at Buckeye Field, Saturday’s slate includes multiple contests on four fields at Fred Beekman Park.
  • Admission is a $5 donation that will be collected upon entry at both locations.
  • The Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic has raised over $250,000, making it one of the largest fundraisers for Breast Cancer Awareness month in central Ohio.
  • Proceeds benefit The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the OSUCCC-James.

Recapping Last Weekend

  • Ohio State went 2-1 last weekend to open up its fall schedule, notching a win over Ohio Dominican before splitting a doubleheader with Kentucky.
  • Graduate transfer pitcher Lexie Handley went a team-high 10.2 innings and allowed just two earned runs with 14 strikeouts. Fellow pitcher Allison Smith, a sophomore, had a 0.81 earned-run average in 8.2 innings with 11 strikeouts.
  • At the plate, six players who had four or more at-bats hit .400 or better on the weekend. Sam Hackenbracht went 4-for-7 with a home run and four RBI while McKenzie Bump, Avery Clark, Kaitlyn Farley and Taylor Heckman all had three hits.
  • The Buckeyes had 11 extra base hits on the weekend and overall hit .337 as a team.

Introducing the Newcomers

  • The Buckeyes return 17 letterwinners, seven starters and three pitchers from its 2021 roster while also welcoming in six newcomers.
  • All six of those newcomers saw action last weekend, including four freshmen, who each finished with a hit.
  • Reagan Milliken’s first hit at Buckeye Field was a triple while Kami Kortokrax, Kaitlyn Farley and Melina Wilkison each had singles.
  • Senior transfer Jaycee Ruberti’s first hit at home was a big one – a two-run home run on Friday night vs. Ohio Dominican.
  • Graduate transfer pitcher Lexie Handley pitched three scoreless innings on Friday and followed that up with 6.2 innings vs. Kentucky on Sunday with six strikeouts.
