COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes squared off for Game One of a two-game midweek series against Campbell, who edged Ohio State earlier in the year in the Armed Forces Invitational. The Fighting Camels hit six home runs en route to an 11-1 victory over the Buckeyes.

Notes

  • Zach Dezenzo’s single in the seventh gives him a season-high 12-game hitting streak
  • Kade Kern singled and double for his 17th multi-hit game of the season.
  • Marcus Ernst’s fifth inning RBI double gives him 60 hits on the season, which leads the team.
  • Garrett Peters pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the ninth, striking out two.
  • Archer Brookman singled and scored, reaching a second time on a walk.

How It Happened

Campbell opened up the scoring with a three-run home run in the top of the first off the bat of cleanup hitter Logan Jordan. In the second, a solo shot by the Fighting Camels made it a 4-0 game. Campbell mirrored those outcomes in the fourth and fifth, first hitting another solo home run to make it a five-run game, and then extending the lead to 8-0 on a two-out three run home run.

The Buckeyes scored their first run of the game in the fifth, when Archer Brookman came all the way around from first after reaching on a walk by way of a Marcus Ernst double off the left-center field wall. Ty Babin hit his third home run of the game in the seventh for Campbell, a solo shot to make it 9-1. An RBI double three batters later added another run, and another solo shot in the eighth made it 11-1. The Buckeyes were unable to plate a run in the last four frames and the score held.
