Buckeyes Add 10 for 2015 Season – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With preseason camp just a month away, the Ohio State men’s soccer team is looking forward to the 2015 campaign, welcoming 10 student-athletes who have committed to join the Buckeyes this fall. The 2015 recruiting class is ranked ninth in the nation by CollegeSoccerNews.com, which is the highest-rated in school history, and 12th in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
“The 2015 class, ranked No. 9 by College Soccer News, is very deep and talented,” John Bluem, 19th-year Ohio State head coach, said of the class. “This group should help the Buckeyes maintain our place among the nation’s best Division l programs.”
The class includes four players with have United States National Team experience and five players ranked among the Top 100 recruits in the country, the most in school history. The class has a total of four transfers and six incoming freshmen.
Yaw Amankwa / F / Damascus, Md. – Damascus HS
Amankwa is a transfer from Tyler Junior College, which won the 2014 national championship. He was named MVP of the national tournament and named a 2014 NSCAA First Team All-American. He was ranked as the No. 1 junior college player in the country. Prior to Tyler, Amankwa spent time with the U15 and U17 U.S. National Team and also played for DC United Academy and the Baltimore Bays as a youth player.
Bluem on Amankwa: “Yaw is a very talented attacking player who has great athletic ability. He possesses both speed and power and can play either up top or in wide positions.”
Parker Siegfried / GK / Granville, Ohio – Granville HS
Siegfried, a goalie, has played with the Columbus Crew Academy teams since he was 14. Siegfried has also been with the U14, U15 and U18 U.S. National Teams. CollegeSoccerNews.com ranks him as the 35th overall recruit in the country for the Class of 2015. He is ranked 46th overall for 2015 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Bluem on Siegfried: “Parker has enormous potential and will compete immediately for playing time. He is an outstanding young keeper.”
Nate Kohl / F/M / Hilliard, Ohio – Hilliard Darby HS
Kohl is a transfer from Michigan where he played his freshman year. Prior to his time in Ann Arbor, Kohl was ranked as the No. 44 player in the IMG Academy 150, No. 16 forward and No. 3 player in the Great Lakes Region by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Kohl hailed as the No. 23 player in the country by CollegeSoccerNews.com and competed for the US National Team in Panama as a member of the U17 squad. He scored his first international goal vs. Trinidad and Tobago and won Generation adidas Tournament Golden Boot Award. Kohl spent five seasons with Columbus Crew Academy (2009-2014).
Grzegorz Solawa / M / Niles, Ill. – Niles West HS
A midfielder from Chicago, Solawa played for the Chicago Magic and helped lead them to the US Soccer Academy national finals in 2014. He was named to the U.S. U18 National team and ranked as the 29th overall recruit in the class of 2015 by CollegeSoccerNews.com.
Bluem on Solawa: “Greg is a very talented playmaker who has the ability to contribute immediately as a No. 10.”
Chris Froschauer / GK / Union, Ky. – Larry A. Ryle HS
Froschauer is a transfer from Dayton and was a three-year starter for the Flyers. He was named a freshman All-American in 2012 by CollegeSoccerNews.com. Froschauer was named All-Rookie in the Atlantic 10 and earned Co-Rookie of the Year honors. Froschauer was honored as a Top 100 Freshmen by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Prior to Dayton, he was named one of ESPN Rise’s Top 25 Goalkeepers to Watch and also one of its Top 150 Players to Watch for the Class of 2012. Froschauer backstopped Larry A. Ryle High School to an appearance in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Division I Championship Game in 2011 and was a two-time captain of the Raiders. Froschauer was All-KHSAA State Tournament Team and was the Most Valuable Player of both the regional and district tournaments in 2011. He was tabbed to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Region Team in 2010 and 2011 as well as the Kentucky State ODP team. He also earned the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference’s Division I Player of the Year Award. Froschauer was Northern Kentucky’s Region IX Defensive Player of the Year after posting.59 goals against average during his varsity career, a number that is the lowest of any goalkeeper in Region IX history. He Earned First Team All-Region IX, Ryle High School MVP and First Team Cincinnati Enquirer First Team Honors in 2010 and 2011.
Bluem on Froschauer: “Chris transferred in this past spring and showed that he is a mature, talented and experienced keeper.”
Abdi Mohamed / M/D / Westerville, Ohio – Westerville Central HS
Mohamed played for Classic Eagles in Columbus Ohio as a midfielder and played high school at Westerville Central High School, where he was named All-State in 2014. He was named by CollegeSoccerNews.com as the No. 99 ranked player in the country for the Class of 2015.
Bluem on Mohamed: “Abdi combines excellent athleticism and determination making him an excellent addition to this class.”
Jack Freeman / D / Kansas City, Mo. – Olathe East HS
Freeman is a defender from Overland Park, Kansas. He has played for Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City Academy team since he was 15. Freeman was named team captain of his academy team in 2013 and is an honor roll student.
Bluem on Freeman: “Jack is a tenacious and technical left footed defender that can play either centrally or wide in the back four.”
Jacob Duska / M / Erie, Pa. – Cathedral Prep HS
Duska is a transfer from Michigan where he redshirted his freshman year. A midfielder at Cathedral Prep in 2014, he also played three seasons for Internationals Soccer Academy. He also attended Florida and Dallas showcases and won District 10 championship.
Bluem on Duska: “Jacob has some really good attacking tools and in time will mature into a very valuable wide player.”
Alex Nichols / M/D / Fischer, Ind. – Fischer HS
Nichols is a midfielder from Indiana. He played for the Indiana Fire Academy in 2014 as a defender. Nichols also played ODP from 2010-2012 and was named to the regional team in 2010-2011. He was named Studentsports.com top prospect for 2015 and was selected to first team All-State in 2014 by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association.
Bluem on Nichols: “Alex is a classic utility player, who will perform well in almost any position in the back or midfield.”
Nathan Zanzig / M / Green, Ohio – Walsh Jesuit HS
Zanzig was a captain of his Walsh Jesuit High School team. A two-way midfielder with size and great touch and vision, Zanzig was named all-conference in 2013 and 2014 and all-district in 2014. He played five years in Luxemburg before coming back to Ohio to finish high school.
Bluem on Zanzig: “Nathan has great size and very good technical ability.”
