Buckeye Seniors Earn Big Ten Postseason Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio -After a fourth-place finish at the 2011 Big Ten Championships, seniors Bo Hoag and Brad Smith were honored by the Big Ten as each were awarded conference postseason honors, the league announced. Hoag earned First Team All-Big Ten, while Smith was named Second Team All-Big Ten and was given Ohio State’s Sportsmanship Award.
Iowa’s Vince India was garnered as Big Ten Player of the Year, while Purdue’s Adam Schenk earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Illinois head coach Mike Small won Coach of the Year honors.
Hoag, a senior from Upper Arlington, Ohio, earned his second First Team All-Big Ten honor of his career with the first coming in 2009. He was also named to the second team in 2008. Hoag leads the Buckeyes this season with a 72.46 stroke average and has recorded the second-most rounds in the 60s with seven. Currently, he finished tied for 21st at the 2011 Big Ten Championships held at Purdue.
The two Big Ten honors are Smith’s first postseason conference awards in his career. The Peru, Ind., product is second on the team with a 72.63 stroke average and has a team-best eight rounds in the 60s this season. Smith was Ohio State’s best finisher at the conference championship, finishing tied for 13th with a 7-over 295.
The Buckeyes will look to secure a slot at an NCAA regional May 19-21. The NCAA is set to make the official announcement May 9.
