Tianna Wallpher joined the Ohio State women’s lacrosse program as an assistant coach in July 2023. Wallpher, who serves as the defensive coach for the Scarlet and Gray, came to Ohio State after two years on the staff at East Carolina with now Buckeye head coach Amanda Moore.
Wallpher was a standout defender at Towson before beginning her coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater for a season. She then spent two campaigns as a volunteer assistant coach at Big Ten member Johns Hopkins before joining Moore’s staff at East Carolina.
The ECU Pirates ranked 21st nationally in scoring defense in 2023 and were 11th nationally in save percentage. The 2022 team set the program mark for save percentage and had the second-best goals-against average in school history.
Wallpher, who grew up in Ellicott City, Md., has played professionally in Athletes Unlimited and the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League. She was named a WPLL All-Star and part of the league championship squad in 2019.
During her three-year career at Towson, Wallpher earned IWLCA Third Team All-America honors in 2018, was a three-time First Team All-CAA selection (2016-18), earned conference all-tournament team honors in 2016 and was tabbed an IWLCA First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region honoree twice. The Tigers made two NCAA appearance during her career. She was an America East All-Rookie Team selection while playing at UMBC in 2015.
Wallpher received her bachelor's degree in business administration from Towson in 2018. She was nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year, CAA Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and CAA Female Leadership and Excellence accolades. In 2018, Wallpher was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma of the National Student-Athlete Honors Society.
