Caitlin Insana joined the Ohio State women’s volleyball staff as the Director of Operations in July 2016. Insana previously served as a Buckeye student assistant coach for three seasons (2010-12).
In Insana’s first year back, the Buckeyes reached the NCAA regional semifinals after finishing the regular season with a 20-12 record. Ohio State earned a sweep against Missouri State in the first round and prevailed in five sets at Kansas State in the second round. Following a coaching change, the Buckeyes are coming off back-to-back-to-back NCAA regional semifinals appearances in 2020 (played in spring 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic), 2021 and 2022 with the 2022 squad reaching the Elite Eight for the first time since 2004.
In 2022, the Buckeyes finished with a 22-10 overall record amidst one of the toughest schedules in the country. The Buckeyes went 15-5 in conference play, earned nine ranked wins and strung together a 14-match win streak. For the first time in program history, Ohio State was ranked in the AVCA top-10 for the entire season, outdoing its previous record set in 2021. The Buckeyes also won three-consecutive matches against top-10 opponents for the first time in program history.
Also for the first time in program history, the Buckeyes had the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (Kylie Murr) and the Big Ten Setter of the Year (Mac Podraza). Ohio State had three earn AVCA All-American honors and four earn All-Region honors, the AVCA Northeast Region Player of the Year and five be named All-Big Ten. For their efforts in the classroom, 11 Buckeyes were named Academic All-Big Ten.
The 2021 Ohio State team spent 14-consecutive weeks in the top-10 national rankings, breaking the program record and also being ranked the highest in program history as the No. 3 team in the country on two occasions. The Buckeyes hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Columbus for the first time since 2015, earning the No. 9 national seed after going 15-5 in Big Ten play. OSU finished the season with a 27-6 record. The Buckeyes had three AVCA All-Americans, three AVCA All-Region selections and four all-conference honorees.
Prior to arriving in Columbus, Insana enrolled at High Point University in North Carolina as a student-athlete following an impressive high school and club volleyball career. Her playing career was cut short due to injury, however, and the Clevelander transferred to Ohio State to begin her sophomore year of college.
Insana graduated from The Ohio State University in 2013 with a Sport Industry degree. She then sharpened her organizational, planning and time management skills as a wedding and event planner in Hilliard, Ohio.
