Upper Arlington, Ohio native Jay Carroll was named director of operations for the Ohio State women’s lacrosse program in September 2016.
Carroll will be primarily in charge of assisting the coaching staff with numerous logistical and operational needs, including travel coordination, managing practice and game film and assisting the staff with camp operations. He also will help to maintain a database for recruiting, coordinating referees on game day and setting up daily practice and game plans among other responsibilities.
“The addition of a director of operations position to our program will continue to enhance our student-athlete experience,” head coach Alexis Venechanos said. “With Jay’s unique background and strong organizational skills, he is more than capable of providing the coaching staff and players the necessary support to be successful. We are thrilled to have him in Buckeye Nation.”
“As someone who was born and raised in Upper Arlington, growing up just minutes from campus, the fondest memories of my childhood involve Ohio State University athletics,” Carroll said. “I feel so fortunate and am truly honored to come home and be a Buckeye. I want to thank Janine Oman and Alexis Venechanos for the opportunity to work for such a special program. I look forward to learning from this elite, energetic and experienced coaching staff and working with them for the foreseeable future.”
Carroll comes to Ohio State after earning his bachelor’s degree in Media and Journalism from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill this past spring. While at UNC, he served as the head manager for the women’s lacrosse team during the 2016 national championship season that saw the Tar Heels also capture the ACC regular season and tournament crowns. Among his many duties, he oversaw a staff of five additional managers and assisted the coaching staff with film, scouting and highlight videos.
Also during his time at Chapel Hill, he served a manager for the junior varsity men’s basketball team and also assisted the varsity program with numerous tasks during home games and was a staff member at the Roy Williams Basketball Camps.
Carroll was a two-sport varsity athlete in golf and soccer in high school, graduating from St. Charles Preparatory School in Columbus in 2011.
He also has been a USSF and NCHSAA-licensed soccer referee since 2006, officiating games in Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina and served as an assistant boys golf coach at Jones Middle School in Upper Arlington.
