Competed for the First Varsity Eight at all eight regattas … helped 1V8 win third-straight national title at the NCAA Championships with a time of 6:19.04 to edge California … represented Australia at the World U23 Championships … won a title with the First Varsity Eight (6:22.72) at the Big Ten Championships to help Ohio State win its fourth-consecutive conference title … aided the 1V8 in defeating No. 16 Syracuse and Michigan State at the Griggs Reservoir with a season-best time of 6:11.5 … member of the First Varsity Eight boat that went 17-0 over three races (6:37.5 – 6:15.4 – 6:34.7) at the Clemson Invite to defeat a slew of ranked teams … helped 1V8 post two dominant victories over Michigan and Michigan State with times of 6:34.8 and 7:00.8, respectively … member of First Varsity Eight that went 3-0 over No. 4 Virginia, No. 7 Michigan and Clemson at Griggs Reservoir … rowed at season-opening regatta with the 1V8 and beat No. 11 Princeton and No. 6 Yale with times of 6:38.0 and 6:34.1.
2015 (Freshman)
Rowed as a member of the Second Varsity Eight at the first five events of the season and the First Varsity Eight for the Big Ten championships and NCAA championships … opened the season with two wins at the Big Ten/ACC Double Dual on Griggs Reservoir March 28, the first (6:23.95) 14 seconds ahead of No. 9 Notre Dame and the second (6:24.97) over No. 18 Louisville … captured two first-place finishes at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Lake Monticello in Charlottesville, Va., April 4, the first (6:25.9) over No. 4 Virginia and the second (6:29.5) over Clemson … won both races at the Big Ten Double Dual on Griggs Reservoir April 11; earned the first victory (6:04.88) by 12 seconds over No. 19 Minnesota and the second over No. 18 Wisconsin (6:09.25-6:10.07) … won two of three races over two days at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C., on Lake Hartwell April 18-19 … captured a second-place finish (6:38.2) behind Virginia in the morning session (6:25.7) and defeated Washington State by three-tenths of a second in the evening (6:32.5) on day one, followed by a win on day two (6:36.9-6:38.2) over No. 16 UCLA … captured a win in the regular-season finale at Griggs Reservoir April 25 with a time of 6:36.1 … placed first with the 1V8 at the 2015 Big Ten Championships at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind., with a time of 6:42.11, helping the Buckeyes’ to a third consecutive Big Ten championship and fifth overall … recorded the second-fastest time ever (6:18.15) at the NCAA Regatta to claim the gold medal over top-ranked and unbeaten California at the 2015 NCAA Championships in Gold River, Calif., clinching the program’s third consecutive national team title … Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.
Prior to Ohio State
Attended Caulfield Grammar School … competed in rowing and netball, serving as captain of both teams in 2013 … spent two years with the Mercantile Rowing Club and three years with the Monash Netball Club.
Personal
Daughter of Celia and Chris Engel … has a sister, Emily, and brother, Ben … majoring in exercise science …enjoys reading, spending time with family, cooking and listening to music … hopes to row with the Senior Australian Rowing Team in the future and work in architecture.
