The 2025 campaign will be the sixth season for Travis Morris with the Buckeyes men’s soccer team. Morris coaches the Ohio State goalkeepers, plans daily training, assists with recruiting and video work along with helping with day-to-day operations. He was promoted to associate head coach in September of 2025.
Morris helped the Buckeyes through one of the most successful seasons in Ohio State history. The Buckeyes advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 College Cup after winning the Big Ten Tournament and earning a share of the 2024 league regular-season title. Ohio State finished with a 16-2-4 overall record and ended the home portion of the schedule at 10-0-4. The 16 wins are the second most in program history and the home win total set an Ohio State record.
Defensively, Ohio State employed a two-keeper system in 2024. Redshirt junior Max Trejo and redshirt freshman Patrick McLaughlin split duties for most of the season. Trejo started the final six matches and posted an overall record of 10-1-2 with seven shutouts. McLaughlin posted a 6-1-2 record with two shared and one solo clean sheet. In total, the Buckeyes allowed just 19 goals with 10 shutouts and in 16 matches allowed a goal or less.
Morris helped coach Ohio State to an 11-3-6 overall record and a tie for second in the 2022 Big Ten regular-season race with a 4-2-2 record. The Buckeyes advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 Big Ten Tournament before being selected to the 2022 NCAA Tournament, where the Buckeyes advanced to the second round with a win (3-0) at Wake Forest. Ohio State fell to UNC Greensboro 1-1 (PKs, 5-6) after a hard-fought battle.
Morris previously coached the High Point Panthers, who won back-to-back Big South regular-season titles with Morris on staff, with the team tallying its most successful season in its Division I history during the 2018 campaign. In Morris’ second year with the Panthers, the program reached the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament for the first time in history while ranking as high as No. 12 in the national polls. In Morris’ third year with the Panthers, the team tallied 13 wins, one of only eight teams in the country to do so in back-to-back seasons.
Under the tutelage of Morris, Panther goalkeepers turned in 22 clean sheets between 2017-19 while averaging 0.87 goals allowed per contest. Goal Keeper, Keegan Meyer was selected overall 43rd in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, the highest professional draft pick from any sport in HPU history.
Morris served as the goalkeeper coach at Belmont for three seasons from 2014-16. He helped plan day-to-day training sessions for the team and planned all goalkeeper training sessions. His other duties included coordinating travel, recruiting and video work. Morris also helped to organize and run all Belmont Soccer camps.
Prior to his time at Belmont, Morris served as a graduate assistant earning his Master’s Degree in Sports Leadership and was a volunteer assistant over two seasons at VCU. He helped guide the Rams to back-to-back at-large NCAA Tournament bids in 2012 and 2013.
Morris graduated from Bridgewater College with a Bachelors in Health and Physical Education in 2012 after a four-year playing career with the Eagles.
He holds an USSF National “D” Coaching License and an NSCAA Level II Goalkeeping Coaching Diploma.
