COLUMBUS, Ohio – After playing its first conference game of the season last weekend, conference action heats up for the 23rd-ranked Ohio State field hockey team this weekend when it heads east for a pair of road tests. Ohio State will face No. 19 Rutgers on Friday at 3 p.m. in Piscataway, N.J. and sixth-ranked Penn State on Sunday at noon in State College, Pa.

Basics on the Buckeyes
- With a 3-3 overall record, Ohio State is ranked 23rd in this week’s NFHCA Coaches Poll. It’s the fourth consecutive poll that the Buckeyes have appeared in this season.
- Ohio State is one of seven Big Ten teams in the poll. Defending national champion Northwestern (7-0) is ranked No. 1.
- Through six games, the Buckeyes boast three top-10 national statistical rankings: shutouts per game (fourth: 0.50), save percentage (seventh: .824) and goals-against average (ninth: 1.00).
- Ohio State is also 15th in scoring margin (+1.12).
- Seven different players have scored goals this season, led by three from sophomore Hallie Brost and two each by Cameryn Forgash, Claudia Thomas, Sarah Charley and Zella Bailey.
- Goalkeeper Abby Danson has a .844 save percentage, which leads the Big Ten and is fourth-best in the country.
History with the Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights
- Sunday will be the 59th all-time meeting between Ohio State and Penn State in field hockey. The Nittany Lions hold a 41-15-2 edge, but Ohio State won two of three matchups during the spring 2021 season, including a 4-3 decision in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
- Ohio State owns four wins over Penn State in the last nine meetings. All of the Buckeyes’ victories have come in State College or at a neutral site.
- Ohio State is 6-6 all-time against Rutgers and 3-4 since head coach Jarred Martin took over in 2017.
- Two of the last three meetings between the two teams have been decided by one goal.
- The last time the two teams played in Piscataway, Ohio State came away with a 4-3 shootout win. The two teams would meet again in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals that year, with Ohio State winning 1-0 in Columbus.
Big Ten Tournament Coming to Columbus
- The nation’s premier conference tournament will take place at Buckeye Varsity Field in 2022.
- The Big Ten Tournament takes place Nov. 3-6, with three quarterfinals games on Thursday, Nov. 3 followed by the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4. The championship game will occur on Sunday, Nov. 6.

A Challenging Slate
- Ohio State has already played three teams currently ranked in this week’s NFHCA poll and has two more on deck this weekend.

- Ohio State’s remaining opponents have a 52-34 overall record for a winning percentage of .605.
