
Ohio State, Rutgers Meet Saturday on BTN

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The second half of the Big Ten men’s lacrosse season rolls on this weekend and the task for No. 14 Ohio State (3-3) will be a road test at No. 8 Rutgers (4-2) Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes and Scarlet Knights will square off on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. inside SHI Stadium in Piscataway. The game will be broadcast live on BTN.

Briefly on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State is coming off of what might be its most complete effort of the season in a 14-6 win at Michigan.
- In that game, the Buckeyes held the Wolverines without a goal for nearly 26 minutes and scored seven times in the second quarter to take a commanding 8-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- The duo of Jack Myers and Tre Leclaire have combined for 35 goals and 10 assists. Last Saturday, they each had four points (Myers: 3G, 1A; Leclaire 4G).
- The other double-figure scorers through six games are midfielder Griffin Hughes (13G, 2A) and Jackson Reid (5G, 6A).
- Jeff Henrick leads all non face-off specialists with 17 ground balls and also had a team-high nine caused turnovers. He scored his first goal of the season on Saturday during the 7-0 second-quarter run.
- Mitchell Pehlke scored his first two career goals on Saturday and finished with a career-high three points (2G, 1A).
- Goalie Alec Van de Bovenkamp, coming off a season-high 14 save performance the week prior vs. Maryland, stopped seven shots and allowed a season-low six goals.
- Face-off specialist Justin Inacio is 78-of-140 of the season (.557) with 34 ground balls. His best game of the season came two weeks ago vs. Maryland when he won 19 of 27 against the Terrapins.
- The starting close defense has been the same for all six games this year: Jacob Snyder, George Walsh and graduate transfer Eric Wenz.
Update on Attendance at Ohio Stadium
- Fans wishing to attend lacrosse games at Ohio Stadium on April 10 and/or April 24 can walk up to each facility on game day and receive a digital ticket with an assigned seat until we reach capacity.
- There will not be an admission charge for any of these regular season events.
- All fans will be asked to share contact information in case contact tracing needs to be conducted after the event.
History vs. Rutgers
- Rutgers has won 10 of the 13 all-time meetings between the two teams.
- Since the creation of the Big Ten men’s lacrosse league for the 2015 season, Rutgers owns a 4-2 edge in the series.
- The Buckeyes defeated Rutgers in 2016 and 2018, both at Ohio Stadium.
- The two teams played six times between 1992 and 1999 before the series was resumed in 2015 when they became conference opponents.
- Ohio State and Rutgers haven’t played at SHI Stadium in Piscataway since April 29, 2017 – a 12-11 overtime win for Rutgers.
The Grad Transfers
- Alec Van de Bovenkamp came to Ohio State this summer after graduating from Furman.
- A two-time team captain, he was second team All-SoCon in 2019 after finishing the season with 182 saves and a .510 save percentage.
- He had a career-high 21 saves vs. Mercer on April 6, 2019 and 20 vs. North Carolina on Feb. 9.
- He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Furman and is enrolled in Ohio State’s sports management master’s degree program.
- Eric Wenz played in 47 games during a four-year career at Hofstra.
- In a shortened 2020 season, he led the Pride with 12 caused turnovers and was third on the team with 20 ground balls.
- He graduated from Hofstra with his bachelor’s degree in economics and is enrolled in a specialized master’s program within the Fisher College of Business.
Bright Lights, Big Stage
- Saturday’s game will be one of two remaining this season to air on BTN.
- Joe Beninati and Mark Dixon, the voices of Big Ten lacrosse on BTN, will call the action.
- Ohio State is slated to appear again on the BTN airwaives in two weeks – April 18 – when it travels to College Park to take on Maryland.
- Ohio State’s regular season finale vs. Penn State on April 24 is slated to appear on ESPNU (4 p.m.).
