COLUMBUS, Ohio – Seven Buckeyes earned qualification to the 2022 NCAA Championships this week at the Zone C Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. In Wednesday’s platform competition, Ciara McGing and Hunter Grannum became the sixth and seventh Ohio State divers to earn a ticket to the national championships that will be held in Atlanta, Ga. starting with next week’s women’s championships.
Also earning qualification on platform was Jake Fielding, Clay Chaplin and Lyle Yost. The trio has earned spots at the national championship meet on all three boards.
McGing followed up her career-best finish at the 2022 Big Ten Championships with a NCAA qualifying performance at the zone championship. The sophomore was in second after the preliminary round, but moved up to ninth overall with a score of 505.40 to earn her spot at the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row
Five Buckeye men competed in the final of the platform dive on the final day of the Zone C Championships. Fielding led the squad for the second day in a row, recorded a final score of 732.90 for eighth overall. Grannum received his first NCAA bid with a 10th-place result (712.80). Yost (709.30) earned the final 11th spot in the event. Chaplin, who finished 12th, can compete on platform at NCAA’s because he has qualified for previous dives at the zone championship.

Ohio State will compete at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship starting tomorrow, March 10. The NIC provides a culminating event for those Division I swimmers and divers that have achieved B/Zone standards but are not selected for the NCAA Division I Championships.
