
Ohio State Opens 2023 Season With Quad Meet vs. Arizona, Greenville and Kentucky

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team is set to begin its 2023 campaign this weekend in Columbus. The Buckeyes welcome Arizona, Greenville and Kentucky this Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Covelli Center.
The meet will be streamed live on B1G+ (subscription required).
MEET THEMES – RETRO MEET
- Kicking off the season’s promotional calendar is the team’s retro meet.
- Promotions include $1 popcorn, glow wand giveaway at the door and a post-meet meet and greet with the team.
- Fans are encouraged to wear gray or silver for the meet.
- Doors open at 1 p.m.
BUCKEYE THIS AND THAT
- Ohio State is coming off a successful 2022 season, during which the team set program records and hit top-five program scores. The Buckeyes earned a program-high scores on uneven bars (49.425), balance beam (49.500) and floor (49.625). Against Kent State and Eastern Michigan on March 6, 2022, the Buckeyes earned a 197.525 for the second-best score in program history. Against California and Pittsburgh, the team scored a 197.100 for the third-highest score. The team earned the first score of 197.00 in head coach Meredith Paulicivic’s tenure with a 197.075 against Michigan State on Feb. 26.
- Claire Gagliardi, Sydney Jennings and Colby Miller have returned to the roster for their fifth year of eligibility. Miller is the reigning Big Ten uneven bars champ while Gagliardi and Jennings were among the highest scorers for the Buckeyes on floor and vault, respectively.
- Senior Lexi Edwards finished 16th on vault at last year’s NCAA Championship meet. She scored a 9.950, on a 9.950 start value vault, at the Auburn regional to earn a spot in the national championship meet.
- Joining the team this season are freshmen Mallory Gregory, Payton Harris and Kaylyn Mintz. Gregory, from Clermont, Fla., is a 2022 DP national qualifier who finished top-three on vault, beam and floor at the 2022 Regionals. A native of Franklin, Wis., Harris is a 2022 DP champion on vault and in the all-around. Mintz, who hails from Wilmington, N.C., is the 2022 North Carolina state champion on floor and finished eighth at Nationals.
- Overall, the Buckeyes return 17 gymnasts from the 2022 season to this year’s roster.
- Ohio State finished the 2022 season No. 20 in the country. The team finished top-20 on bars (No. 14) and floor (No. 16).
- Ahead of the 2023 season, Coach Paulicivic announced new coaching titles and members of the Buckeye staff. After announcing she would be medically retiring from the sport, Zoe Schweitzer joined the coaching staff as a student assistant coach ahead of the 2023 season. In addition, Lucas Wasson was promoted to associate head coach last summer.
- The Buckeyes were picked 19th in the WCGA Preseason Poll, collecting 844 points. Ohio State will compete against 10 teams ranked in the preseason poll, including No. 4 Michigan, No. 8 California, No. 11 Kentucky, No. 12 Michigan State, No. 16 Minnesota, No. 17 Stanford, No. 18 Iowa, No. 20 Georgia, No. 22 BYU, No. 23 Illinois and No. 25 Arizona.
- Edwards and Harris were named 2023 B1G Gymnast to Watch honors ahead of the season.
BUCKEYES VS. CATS
- This weekend’s meet marks the fifth time that Ohio State will be competing against Arizona in the regular season. The Buckeyes are 1-3 all-time vs. the Wildcats from Tucson. The last time the teams met was during the 2020 season.
- The last time the Buckeyes and Kentucky Wildcats met was during the 2018 season and the last meeting between the programs in Columbus was in 2011. Against Kentucky, Ohio State is 13-7.
- Sunday’s meet is the first matchup between Ohio State and Greenville as it marks the first meet for the Greenville Panthers’ women’s gymnastics program.

Ohio State makes the trip to Athens, Ga. to compete in a quad meet against Georgia, Fisk and Rutgers on Jan. 16. The meet will start at 2 p.m. from the Stegeman Coliseum.
