COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team extended its win streak to three meets with a 405.500-403.900 victory over No. 3 Penn State on Sunday at the Covelli Center. The Buckeyes earned their highest score of the season while handing the Nittany Lions their first loss of the year.
Ohio State had season highs on pommel horse (67.000), rings (67.350) and parallel bars (68.450). The Buckeyes also claimed team titles on rings, parallel bars and vault (71.500).
Individually, Donovan Hewitt shared the vault crown with a 14.550 and Jesse Tyndall scored a 14.300 to take first on parallel bars.
Ohio State opened the competition on floor, where Tyndall earned a 14.300 to place second. Penn State’s Matt Cormier won the event with a 14.600.
The team headed to pommel horse for the next rotation. Rihards Trams and Justin Ah Chow tied for second with a pair of 13.950s.
Max Andryushchenko scored a 13.650 and Josh Seltzer had a 13.550 to finish second and third, respectively, on rings.
On vault, Hewitt matched the Nittany Lions’ Cormier with a 14.550 to share first place. Dexter Roettker joined them on the podium with a score of 14.450.
The Buckeyes moved on to parallel bars. Tyndall secured his second medal of the afternoon with a top score of 14.300. Sean Neighbarger’s 14.200 came in third.
Penn State swept the podium on high bar while Hewitt finished fourth on a 12.950.
Ohio State will take part in the Winter Cup on Feb. 26-28 in Indianapolis.
