No. 13 Ohio State Wins 3-0 over Railsplitters

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 13 Ohio State (8-6, 3-3) won its fourth-consecutive match without losing a set after a 3-0 (31-29, 25-12, 25-19) win over visiting Lincoln Memorial (9-3) Saturday at the Covelli Center.

The Buckeyes were led in kills by Samuel Clark (12), Martin Lallemand (11) and Jacob Pasteur (10). The trio helped Ohio State outhit the Railsplitters .329 to .192.

Noah Platfoot led Ohio State with 33 assists while Parker Mikesch had a team-high five digs.

Set One: Ohio State scored first but the Railsplitters put the next two points on the board. Down 3-2, the Buckeyes scored the next three to take a 5-3 lead. LMU tied the match at 8-all but Ohio State scored four of the next five to take a 12-9 lead. A Cole Young block made it 15-10 Buckeyes causing a LMU timeout. The Railsplitters called another timeout after a Pasteur kill made it 19-14. The LMU rallied to tie at 24-all and then took the lead 25-24 to prompt an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes tied it at 25-all on a Pasteur kill. The teams went back and forth until, with the score tied at 29, an LMU error and a Pasteur kill gave the Buckeyes the 31-29 win. Ohio State edged the Railsplitters in hitting .154/.111 in the first set. Pasteur and Clark led the Buckeyes with five kills each in the set.

Set Two: The Buckeyes jumped to a 7-1 lead to open the second set leading to a Railsplitter timeout. Another LMU timeout came after a Platfoot ace put the Buckeyes on top 13-3. A Sean Ryan ace made it 19-7 Buckeyes. Ohio State kept the pressure on taking the second set 25-12 with the final point coming on a Pasteur kill. Ohio State hit .533 in the second while the Railsplitters connected at a .120 clip. Pasteur and Clark each led the Buckeyes with nine kills over the first two sets.

Set Three: LMU opened with a 5-3 lead in set three before the Buckeyes tied it 5-all. The Buckeyes took the lead on kills by Ryan and Lallemand before an OSU error knotted it back at 7-all. The Buckeyes scored the next four points to force a Railsplitter timeout down 11-7. Lallemand and Clark each at a pair of kills during the Ohio State 4-0 run. Lincoln Memorial rallied to cut into the Ohio State lead scoring seven of the next 12 points to make it 16-14 Buckeyes. Ohio State scored the next four to build the lead back to 20-16. The Railsplitters called timeout after a Pasteur block made it 23-19 Buckeyes. A pair of Kyle Teune aces ended the game, 25-19, and the match, 3-0.
