ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Ohio State men’s tennis team took on the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday afternoon, leaving Ann Arbor victorious, 6-1.

The Buckeyes entered the match coming off a 7-0 victory over the Michigan State Spartans on Friday evening and were looking to make it a sweep of the state up north with a win against against the No. 16 Wolverines.

Ohio State began the match in familiar fashion, yet again taking the match lead 1-0 through doubles play. The Buckeyes have won the doubles point in all but one match in 2019. Martin Joyce and JJ Wolf were reuinted on Sunday, having played together for majority of the season. John McNally and Hunter Tubert were also back together on the courts, with Alex Kobelt and Kyle Seelig as the third Buckeye tandem. Ohio State won the doubles point thanks to big performances from Joyce, Wolf, McNally and Tubert. Those four have been outstanding this season and have been a key part to the Buckeyes success.

For the most part, singles play went by fairly quickly with Wolf and Kobelt defeating their opponent in straight sets. Kyle Seelig would go on to clinch the match victory with a win of his own shortly after Wolf. The teams played out the rest of their matches with Hunter Tubert and John McNally picking up wins as well.

With the victory over Mattias Siimar, JJ Wolf is now 15-0 in dual matches this season. In addition, Alex Kobelt and John McNally are 12-1 and 9-2, respectively. The Buckeyes have responded tremendously from their losses in Texas and are back to winning ways with conference play underway. With their win over the Wolverines, Ohio State advances to 18-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. Sunday’s win marked the 26th-consecutive victory over Michigan for Ohio State.

Up next for the Buckeyes are the Wisconsin Badgers on March 29 and the No. 18 Minnesota Golden Gophers on March 31, both hosted by Ohio State at the Varsity Tennis Center.
