No. 1 Ohio State picks up another conference victory with win over Badgers, 6-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s tennis team defeated the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday evening, taking down their conference foe 6-1.
The Buckeyes entered the match 3-0 in conference play with wins over Penn State, Michigan State and Michigan, along with an overall record of 18-2. Ohio State started the match in typical fashion yet again, by showcasing some elite doubles play, taking the doubles point. This would be the 20th time in 2019 Ohio State began the match with a 1-0 advantage. Big performances from Alex Kobelt, Kyle Seelig, Hunter Tubert and John McNally propelled the Buckeyes in front.
In singles play, Ohio State kept their momentum going and delivered. Kyle Seelig was on fire today as he put his opponent away quickly with a clinical 6-1, 6-1 victory on court 4. Alex Kobelt and Martin Joyce would join Seelig with wins of their own shortly after, clinching the match victory at that point, 4-0. As a whole the Buckeyes were hitting their shots well and looked focused and ready to go on each serve. After Hunter Tubert would fall short in his match on court 6, JJ Wolf would secure his win over Osgar O’Hoison. Wolf’s match on court 1 was a thriller. O’Hoison kept Wolf on his toes throughout the evening, but wasnt able to ever get over the hump and push for a third set. To finish it out for the Buckeyes, John McNally defeated Jesper Freimuth on court 2, putting a cap on a 6-1 victory over the Badgers.
Ohio State advances to 19-2 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten with the win, and will next take on No. 35 Minnesota in Columbus on Sunday. With a win over Minnesota, Ty Tucker and the Buckeyes will have recorded 20+ wins in each of the last 19 seasons. In addition, a win over the Gophers would mark the 15th ranked win in 2019 for No. 1 Ohio State.
