COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1/2 Ohio State women’s hockey team is set to host four home games in six days, starting this weekend against Bemidji State. The Buckeyes and Beavers faceoff at 6 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday from the OSU Ice Rink.
Both games of the series will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required). Following Saturday’s game, fans have the opportunity to skate with the Buckeyes at the OSU Ice Rink. Those who plan to participate can bring their own skates or rent a pair for free from the pro shop.
Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Ohio State returns to action following a bye last weekend. The team last played Nov. 5-6 against St. Thomas, with the Buckeyes sweeping the Tommies 4-0 and 6-0.
- Graduate forward Emma Maltais broke the Ohio State record for career points in the Buckeyes’ 4-0 win over St. Thomas. She has now amassed 171 points for her career.
- Defenseman Sophie Jaques paces the team with 18 points and 12 goals on the year. She currently leads the country in goals per game (1.00) and power play goals (5).
- Maltais continues to lead the Buckeyes with 13 assists so far this season. With 116 career helpers, she is just seven assists away from matching the program record 123 career assists held by Laura McIntosh (‘09-12).
- The Buckeyes lead the WCHA, and rank second nationally, with a .308 power play percentage.
- Through 12 games this season, the Buckeyes are averaging more than double their amount of shots allowed with 42.00 shots per game. The team is scoring 4.08 goals per game while holding opponents to just 1.92.
- This week, Ohio State sits atop the USA Today/USA Hockey poll. The Buckeyes earned 10 first-place votes for 271 votes overall. The team remains second in the DCH/USCHO.com poll with seven first-place votes and 282 overall votes, just one vote shy of No. 1 ranked Minnesota.
- Graduate forward Paetyn Levis looks to become the 15th player in program history to join the century club. She is seven points away from 100 for her career, having scored 37 goals and added 56 assists for 93 points as a Buckeye.
- Amanda Thiele leads the Buckeyes’ goaltending unit with a 7-1-0 record this season. The junior has made 127 saves for a .882 save percentage in eight games this season.
- Nineteen of the Buckeyes 22 skaters have recorded at least a point this season. Fifteen of those players have scored at least one of Ohio State’s 49 goals this year.
- Gabby Rosenthal leads the conference and is second in the country in faceoff wins with 178 on the year. She is responsible for nearly half of the Buckeyes 392 faceoff wins this season.
Series History – Buckeyes vs. Beavers
- This weekend’s matchup between Ohio State and Bemidji State is the second meeting between the two teams this season.
- On the road at Bemidji, the Buckeyes swept the Beavers, 4-0 and 5-2.
- The 4-0 shutout was Ohio State’s first clean sheet of the year and senior goaltender Raygan Kirk’s first as a Buckeye.
- Ohio State is 52-29-13 against Bemidji State in the all-time series. On home ice, the Buckeyes are 27-11-6 against the Beavers.
2022-23 November Rivalry Series
- Five Buckeyes are playing in the November games of the 2022-23 Rivalry Series between the United States and Canada.
- In her first game with the USWNT, Riley Brengman tallied her first point with an assist on the team’s first goal of the 4-3 win.
- Jincy Dunne also added an assist for Team USA while Canada’s Emma Maltais added a helper as well.
- Graduate forward Gabby Rosenthal made her USA Hockey debut in Tuesday’s win and was linemates with Buckeye alum Clair DeGeorge.
- The November Rivalry Series schedule continues Thursday, Nov. 17 in British Columbia followed by a matchup on Nov. 20 in Seattle. Wash.
Five Nations Tournament
- Also participating in international competition over the last week was freshman forward Sofie Lundin and 2022 graduate Sara Saekkinen.
- Saekkinen and Finland took first in the tournament that was held on home soil. She tallied an assist for her team.
- Lundin helped Team Sweden finish second in the tournament, tallying one goal and five assists.
Up Next
Following this weekend’s conference series, Ohio State will play its first non-conference games on Nov. 22-23 against No. 4 Colgate. Puck drop for the final home series of 2022 between the Buckeyes and the Raiders is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday and 3 p.m. Wednesday.
