No. 2 Buckeyes Meet St. Thomas This Weekend in St. Paul

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team begins its Western Collegiate Hockey Association season this weekend with a trip to St. Thomas. The Buckeyes (2-0-0) and Tommies (2-0-0) meet 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday from Lee & Penny Anderson Arena in St. Paul, Minn.

The Buckeyes open their 2026-27 home slate against No. 1 Wisconsin next weekend at the OSU Ice Rink. Game one is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 and game two will face off at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Tickets for Ohio State home games can be purchased HERE.

Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- The Buckeyes opened the 2026-27 season with a sweep of No. 4 Penn State last week in University Park, Pa. Ohio State won both games, 2-1, with game one won in overtime and game two taken in regulation.
- Freshman goaltender Rowan Houweling earned the Buckeyes' first WCHA weekly award of the season, picking up the league's Rookie of the Week award. Houweling started game two against the Nittany Lions, her first collegiate game, and finished with 11 saves and a .917 save percentage on the day.
- Ohio State is ranked second in the national polls entering the second weekend of the season. The Buckeyes have been ranked in the top two in both the USCHO and USA Hockey College Polls for the last 18 polls and have not dropped out of the top three since 2024.
- Kaia Malachino, Jenna Raunio and Hilda Svensson have tallied a team-high two points on the year. Malachino and Svensson join Rylee Bartz and Joy Dunne as the team's four goal scorers from the opening weekend. Raunio leads the team with two assists on the year.
- Svensson scored the Buckeyes' first power play goal of the season in game two against the Nittany Lions. The sophomore forward led the team in power play points last season.
- Jocelyn Amos' dominance on the faceoff continues as she finished the season-opening series with a .718 win percentage at the faceoff dot. Ohio State is 61 percent at the dot as a team through two games.
- The Buckeye penalty kill went 9-for-9 against Penn State. Ohio State is one of 14 teams to come out of the opening weekend 100 percent on the PK.
- Ohio State begins its conference season against St. Thomas for just the second time. The first came in the Tommies' first games as a member of the WCHA in the 2021-22 season opener.
- The Buckeyes are 338-307-66 all-time in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and head coach Nadine Muzerall is 170-65-20 in conference games. Ohio State finished second in the league in 2025-26, finishing just two points shy of first-place Wisconsin.
- Ohio State has nine current and former players who earned the invite to Hockey Canada's National Women's Team Training Camp. Amos and Hayley McDonald are the current Buckeyes named to the roster.
- Muzerall is in her 11th season at the helm with a career record of 262-86-22. She is assisted by first-year associate head coach Jack Johnson and assistant coaches Kelsey Cline (fifth season) and Logan Davis (fourth season). Muzerall is tied for second among active Division I women's hockey head coaches with a .736 career win percentage.
- Ohio State is 28-0-0 all-time against St. Thomas and 10-0-0 against the Tommies on the road.
- Ohio State is 4-0-0 in Lee & Penny Anderson Ice Arena, which opened last season. The Buckeyes swept their road series against St. Thomas last season and won both games of the 2026 WCHA Final Faceoff hosted at the rink.
