COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior superstar Amanda Schlueter scored a pair of goals to lead No. 8 Ohio State to a 2-0 victory over visiting USC on Thursday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 7-1-1 on the year and 3-1-0 in Big Ten play. USC, which was playing for the first time in Columbus, falls to 1-6-3 and 0-3-1 in B1G play.
The Buckeye dominated the ball the majority of the night, outshooting USC 20-10 and 13-3 in shots on goal. That was the second time this year with 20 or more shots in a match and the first time with double digit shots on goal.
For Schlueter, this was her third game this season with two goals, and she now has 96 career points. That has her tied for second in program history with Tiffany Cameron (2009-12) and just two points behind Kailyn Dudukovich (2021-24) for the program’s all-time record.
Schlueter opened the scoring in the ninth minute as she stole a pass just inside midfield and slipped a shot past the USC keeper to put the Buckeyes in front 1-0.
In the 32nd minute, Schlueter scored her second goal of the match as she was setup by a pair of great passes. Sophomore Sydney Bering pushed a pass to the midfield where freshman Mia Stevens collected and slid a beautiful lead pass to Schlueter down the left side of the field. The senior then found the back of the net again.
Senior goalkeeper Peighton Northrup wasn’t challenged much but she did make a nice sprawling save in the 56th minute to keep USC off the board. Schlueter had a couple of chances in the second half for a hat trick but wasn’t able to convert.
