Ohio State Shuts Out Cornell Sunday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team closed the weekend with a 2-0 win over Cornell Sunday at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes improved to 4-2 on the year with the shutout of the Big Red (1-4) in the first meeting between the two teams.

- After a scoreless opening quarter dominated by both defenses, Ohio State jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second quarter.
- Sienna Golden recorded the first goal of the day 1:37 into the second frame for her fifth goal of the season. Carmela Maro took a shot that Cornell goalkeeper Martha Broderick saved and Golden knocked the rebound into the cage for the Ohio State lead.
- The Buckeyes doubled their advantage at 27:40 with a goal from Lea DeWan. Raliegh Kerst worked the ball in front of the Big Red cage and DeWan put the loose ball into the goal for Ohio State's second goal of the game.
- The Buckeye defense earned its second shutout of the season, holding Cornell to just two shots on goal in the game and three shots on the day. Ohio State goalkeeper Avery Alleva made two saves in the second half to keep the Big Red scoreless.

- Lea DeWan tallied her first collegiate goal Sunday against Cornell. She is the seventh goal scorer for Ohio State this season.
