
Ohio State Opens 2026 Season with Two-Game Homestand

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team begins the 2026 season this weekend in Columbus, hosting Old Dominion and Bellarmine this weekend at Buckeye Varsity Field.
The Buckeyes start the season Friday, Aug. 28 against the Monarchs at 4 p.m. and meet the Knights Sunday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. Bellarmine and Old Dominion will play in a neutral site matchup Saturday at 3 p.m. from Buckeye Varsity Field.

Ohio State heads to the east coast to play in the B1G/ACC Challenge next weekend at Rutgers. The Buckeyes meet Syracuse on Friday, September 4 at 3 p.m. and Virginia on Sunday, September 6 at 11 a.m. at Bauer Track and Field Complex in Piscataway, N.J.

Weekend Game Promotions
- Friday's season-opener against the Monarchs is Student Appreciation and Dog Day. Fans planning to bring dogs must fill out a waiver before being admitted to the facility: https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/2024/8/26/pups-at-the-park
- Sunday is Senior Day and the Buckeyes will celebrate three seniors – Emily Barker, Reagan Eickhoff and Anne Marie Krebs – following the game.
- Admission to all Ohio State field hockey games is free. Parking is available in the lots surrounding Buckeye Varsity Field, specifically at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
- The 2026 campaign marks the 56th season in program history. Ohio State is 557-463-38 all-time.
- Ohio State's 17-game campaign features 10 home games, eight Big Ten Conference contests and five games against 2025 NCAA Tournament teams.
- The team returns 16 letterwinners from the 2025 season and welcomes 10 newcomers to the team in 2026. Anne Marie Krebs, Philippa Schipper and Maddie Stevens started all 18 games last season for the Buckeyes while Raliegh Kerst, Victoria Kutz and Grace Dixon also played in every game. In all, the team bring back 10 players who played in 15 or more games last year.
- Two of the team's top-four point scorers in 2025 –Kerst and Krebs – are back this season. Krebs earned NFHCA Second Team All-West Region honors last season and tallied eight points while Kerst recorded nine points in her rookie season.
- In goal for Ohio State, Maddie Stevens returns for her second season in the Scarlet and Gray. In 2025, she played all 18 games and finished the year with a 1.76 goals-against average, a .656 save percentage and a 7-7 record with five shutouts. The team's goalkeeping contingent is bolstered by sophomore Lucy Curtis and freshman Avery Alleva.
- Emily Barker, Autum Kernechel and Krebs were named 2026 Big Ten Players to Watch ahead of the season. Read more: HERE.
- Head coach Jarred Martin begins his tenth season at the helm of the Buckeyes with a 92-75 record. He is assisted by associate head coach Kate Lipton and assistant coach Patrick Cota.
- The Buckeyes and Old Dominion meet in Columbus for the first time since 2011. The last time the teams met, in 2011, Ohio State earned a 2-1 win against the Monarchs in Norfolk, Va.
- Sunday's matchup between Ohio State and Bellarmine is the third in the series. Ohio State is 2-0 all-time against the Knights, with a 5-1 win at Bellarmine in 2022 and a 7-0 victory in Columbus in 2023.
