Ohio State topped the Commodores 4-1 in Columbus Saturday
COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a 4-1 Super Regional win over No. 14 Vanderbilt, the No. 4 ranked and No. 3 seed Ohio State women's tennis team clinched a spot in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. Ohio State, now 26-4 on the year, used the doubles point and three singles wins to defeat the Commodores (22-10) at the Auer Tennis Complex in Columbus. Â

The final three rounds of the NCAA Championship will be in Athens, Ga. Ohio State will face No. 11 seed Pepperdine Friday for a spot in the semifinals (time TBD). Ohio State is making its third quarterfinal appearance after back-to-back trips in 2016 and '17. The Buckeyes were facing Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament in Columbus for the fifth time in the last six years but for the first time in the Super Regionals. Ohio State is now 3-2 in those matches.

The doubles duos of Flora Johnson/Luciana Perry and Audrey Spencer/Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev sealed the doubles point. Nao Nishino and Cisse-Ignatiev won in straight sets for a 3-1 Buckeye lead. Teah Chavez clinched the victory, rallying for a three-set win on court one.

How it Happened
- The doubles team of Audrey Spencer and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev dropped just one game to top Erin Pearce and Mia Yamakita on court three.
- The Buckeyes' No. 23-ranked duo of Flora Johnson and Luciana Perry downed No. 7-ranked Celia-Belle Mohr and Sophia Webster, 6-3, on court one to clinch the doubles point.
- In singles, No. 76 Nao Nishino won 6-2, 6-2 over Yamakita on court four to put the Buckeyes up 2-0.
- Vanderbilt took court six in a close match on court six, with Webster winning 7-5, 6-4 over Hephzibah Oluwadare, for a 2-1 team score.
- Cisse-Ignatiev answered for a 3-1 Ohio State lead. After winning the first set in a tiebreak vs. No. 33 Valeria Ray on court three, the Buckeye dropped just one game in the second set, winning 7-6 (2), 6-1.
- The remaining three matches were all in a third set.
- No. 5-ranked Teah Chavez rallied for the court one match to clinch the Buckeye victory. Mohr won the first set, 6-4. Chavez evened the match with a 6-2 win in set two. In the third, the players were tied at three and the Buckeye did not drop another game, taking the set 6-3.
- On court two, No. 4 Perry was ahead of No. 12 Bridget Stammell, 7-5, 1-6, 5-0, and on court five, No. 123 Spencer was leading Pearce, 2-6, 7-5, 3-1, when the Buckeyes clinched the win.
- Nishino is a team-best 17-5 this spring and 31-9 overall. Cisse-Ignatiev has an 11-6 dual ledger, with Chavez 16-3.
- In doubles, Johnson and Perry are 16-3 in dual matches, while Spencer and Cisse-Ignatiev are 13-4.
