
Wetzel Earns MIVA Offensive Player of the Week

Senior recorded 32 kills in Top 15 wins last week
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior captain Shane Wetzel, an opposite hitter for the Buckeyes, was awarded the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Offensive Player of the Week after leading Ohio State to consecutive Top 15 wins over No. 7 Loyola Chicago (3-1) and No. 15 Lewis (3-0) last week.
Wetzel had 32 kills and hit .442 in two matches last weekend to add to a his career total of 1,238 kills, moving him to 11th in program history. He averaged 4.57 kills per set in Ohio State's third-consecutive win over a Top 20 team. In the past two matches, Wetzel also recorded nine digs, five blocks and three aces. This is Wetzel's fourth MIVA OPOW award of his career, collecting three last season in his junior year.
The No. 15 Buckeyes will travel for a neutral site match vs No. 17 Penn State at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh. Ohio State will be back in Columbus to face Northern Kentucky at 5 p.m. April 4 at the Covelli Center for senior night.
