Mayfield Earns B1G Freshman of the Week Award

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State men's lacrosse freshman faceoff specialist Matt Mayfield is the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.Â
Mayfield went 9-for-12 from the faceoff X in last Thursday's 6-4 win over then-ranked No. 12 Denver. The Katonah, N.Y. native tied his career high with eight ground balls and added his first career point with an assist in the game. His nine wins are tied for second most in his career.
Mayfield is one of four FOGOs in the Big Ten with at least a 60 percent winning percentage this season. He is 50-for-83 (.602) on the year. Mayfield is second on the team with 38 ground balls in his rookie campaign.Â
