Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Thursday's game is Ohio State's third ranked matchup in less than two weeks. The Buckeyes are 1-1 against ranked opponents this season with a 10-9 win over then-ranked No. 11 Georgetown and a 9-8 loss to top-ranked Notre Dame last weekend. Four of the team's next five opponents are ranked in the USILA top 20.
- The matchup between the Buckeyes and Pioneers will see the top defenses in the country face off against each other. The two teams are the only squads in the country this season averaging under seven goals allowed per game. Ohio State averages 6.86 in seven games played while Denver averages 6.40 in five games on the year.
- Ohio State has held all seven of its opponents this season to single digit goals and has scored 10 or more goals itself in six of seven games this season. The team leads the Big Ten with a 6.29 scoring margin.
- Junior attackman Garrett Haas is one of two Big Ten players to hit 30 points this season. He leads the Buckeyes with 14 assists and is second with 16 goals and has a goal and multiple points in every game this season for Ohio State. The Buckeyes have four double digit goal scorers on the year in Haas, Alex Mariner (17), Liam White (11) and Khalif Hocker (11).
- Jack Oldman leads the team with 41 ground balls on the year from the faceoff. Cullen Brown leads non-faceoff players with 25 ground balls. Brown also
- Two Buckeye captains are approaching career and program milestones. Marinier is five goals shy of becoming the 15th player in program history to score 100 career goals. Brown has caused 70 turnovers in four seasons and needs three more to tie the program record for career caused turnovers.
- Ohio State's transition game is among the best in the country, with the team's clearing percentage currently second nationally with a 91.6 percent success rate. In its last two games against top 15 teams, the Buckeyes have failed just one clear.
- Junior Caleb Fyock is 6-1 in goal for the Buckeyes this year. He leads the Big Ten with a 6.91 goals-against average and 57.3 save percentage. Fyock has also four caused turnovers and 13 ground balls on the season.
- Ohio State is 16-15 against Denver in the all-time series. In the last meeting between the teams, Ohio State earned a 15-11 win at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium last season. The teams have consistently faced off against each other in the non-conference schedule after previously playing as conference opponents in the ECAC and GWLL. Thursday is the second time the teams will meet at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
- Head coach Nick Myers is in his 18th season leading the Scarlet and Gray. In his Ohio State career, he has led the team to a 151-111 record. He is assisted by associate head coach Travis Crane and assistant coaches James Purpura and Justin Tuma.
